Discover the parrots and giant otters of Tambopata with this 5-day tour. This route from Puerto Maldonado is perfect for spotting the wildlife of the Peruvian Amazon!

Day 1

We will pick you up at the Puerto Maldonado airport and transfer you to the river port of this Peruvian locality, where we will board a spacious boat. Everything is set for a journey along the Tambopata and Madre de Dios rivers!

During the ride, we’ll enjoy a picnic on board while taking in the beautiful landscapes of the Peruvian Amazon. The trip will conclude at a jungle lodge, where you will be welcomed with a drink.

After a well-deserved rest in your rooms, we will attend a talk given by a local naturalist about the endangered species of the Tambopata National Reserve. After dinner at the hotel, we’ll take a nighttime canoe ride to spot caimans. We will conclude this first day by returning to the hotel to rest.

Day 2

We will wake up early for breakfast and then embark on a one-kilometer hike to Tres Chimbadas Lake, one of the homes of the famous giant otters of Tambopata.

After observing these friendly mammals, we will take a short canoe trip across the lake. Next, we’ll enjoy a picnic and head to the tallest wildlife observation tower in the Amazon. From its 46-meter viewpoint, we’ll enjoy extraordinary views! Finally, we will return to the hotel for dinner and spend the night.

Day 3

We will have an early breakfast before visiting the Tambopata parrot clay lick. The «colpa,» a word of Quechua origin, is a red clay wall where numerous species of colorful exotic birds gather, especially parrots, parakeets, and macaws. After a break for a picnic, we will enjoy the views from the observation tower and return to the lodge for dinner. We will conclude this special day with a short night walk through the jungle, then head back to the lodge to rest.

Day 4

COCOCOCHA LAKE
Located within the Tambopata National Reserve, it is our treasured gem near our property, a true paradise for nature lovers. To have the best opportunity to observe wildlife, such as the river wolves, an endangered species, we must wake up very early for a special 5.5 km (3.4 miles) walk from our lodge. The walk to the lake is an experience in itself, immersing us with all our senses in the grandeur of a primary forest: ancient trees, exotic flowers, native fruits, animal tracks, and the vibrant sound of nature at every step. At the end of the trail, we arrive at the magnificent landscape of the lake, creating a unique and wildly unforgettable experience!

While we play hide and seek with the river wolves, guests will enjoy a box lunch and a canoe ride around the lake, allowing us to observe and enjoy the variety of wildlife that can be found in this unique ecosystem. Caimans, shanshos, and camungos are just some of the birds and mammals you’ll encounter on this adventure!
